Contraction Surgery

The second grade students transformed into surgeons this past Wednesday as they performed surgery on words to turn them into contractions. Each student donned a mask and gloves as they entered surgery. Then using their "scalpel" (scissors) they cut two the extra letters off of several words and made them into a contraction using an apostrophe (band aid). Students did a great job in surgery! The patients (contractions) healed very nicely!

2nd Grade Field Trip- Travellers Rest Plantation

The second grade class recently took a trip back in time to Travellers Rest Plantation. Here they were able to experience what life would be like in the 1800s. They were even able to play with some old fashion toys and games as well as write with a quill pen. They visited a one room school house and were able to compare and contrast school as it is now with how it was back then. Overall it was a great success and the students hopefully learned a lot! Enjoy these pictures! (photo credit goes to Mrs. Hurt....thank you!)

Facts Can be Fun

The students have been hard at work practicing their addition and subtraction facts. Parents, I know that many of you have been practicing at home as well! Thank you! It will pay off! In this activity, student worked together to make facts from cubes. These cubes have numbers and as well plus, minus, and equal signs. We received these wonderful cubes from Highlights. Thank you, parents for returning those order forms. We always receive great stuff from Highlights!

Fun with Measuring

Greetings! It has been a few weeks since I have posted, but don't worry! We have been doing tons of fun activities! Here is one that we did during spirit week! (That is why the students are dressed crazy) We were learning about inches, feet, and the ruler and so the students did what they knew to do...measured things! Students had the opportunity to go around the room and measure as many things as they could find. They did a great job! Here are some pics!
