Math Centers (Take 3)

We had another fun and productive day in math centers! Students worked on place value, creating shapes using geoboards, telling time, and watching a Brainpop Jr. video on solid shapes. Every student did a super job showing what they know! I am so proud of their hard work!

Letter Writing

The second grade students learned how to write a proper thank you note! Just in time for Christmas! We discussed the importance of writing a thank you note for each gift or kindness that we receive. Students did a great job writing their letters. They then learned to address an envelope. We sealed them, stamped them, and put them in the mailbox and made sure the flag was up!

Uno Math

Students went to war this week...Uno war that is! They grabbed a friend and using Uno cards they did some addition and subtraction. Each student flipped over a card and the first student to name the correct answer got to keep the cards. The student with the most cards at the end of each round received a point. This would be a great game to play at home with your student!

Spelling Word Keyboards

With Christmas break just around the corner, it is so important right now to finish this semester strong! Today, we spent a lot of time focusing on our spelling words. It is a review week in spelling so to keep things interesting we did a little keyboarding! We borrowed the old keyboards from the computer lab and students were given a chance to type each word. Not only is this a great way to practice spelling, but also keyboarding. We shared 10 keyboards, so if you have any extra lying around the house we are accepting donations :) !!

Eraser Math

Hello there!

This week in math we took addition to a whole new level! We introduced addition problems with four addends! Students used candy erasers to demonstrate the problems and find the answers. Students were then asked to write the math combination above their eraser demonstration. It took the students no time at all to be firing away with the correct answers!

Creating Clocks

Wow! We have some excellent time tellers in our class! Students learned to tell time to the nearest five minutes and then created a clock that will help them practice! Every student did a great job and now students should never need to ask you again...."What time is it?" Now you can ask them!
