Johnny Appleseed Day

In honor of Johnny Appleseed Day, the kindergarten, first, and second grade took some extra time throughout our day to study about Johnny Appleseed as well as different kinds of apples! The classes took part in an apple tasting, apple graphing, a craft, watched a movie and listened to a book and for the culmination of the day....apple bobbing! Thank you to all the parents who donated apple snacks to help us celebrate! Here are some pictures from this super fun day!

Whack A Word

Today students took part in my personal favorite activity...Whack a Word! Think Whack a Mole meets spelling words! Students each received a mallet (a small piece of a pool noodle on a dowel rod) and some moles each with a letter on it. When a spelling word was called out, each student whacked all the letters they needed to spell the word correctly! It was so fun! Here are some pictures!

Math Centers

Happy Wednesday!
Today we participated in our first math center day! Students participated in 5 centers throughout math class. Here is a quick look at four of our centers! (The fifth center was independent study - completing their math page.)

Race Against Time
Students had to tell the time on the clocks to move ahead on the board game.

BrainPop Jr.
Students watched a video on finding temperature followed with a computer quiz.

Roll 'em, Add 'em
Students rolled two dice then wrote the combination needed to add them.

Money Cups
Students filled cups with certain amounts of money.

Center day was a huge success! I hope they will be looking forward to the next one!

Playdoh Spelling Words

Greetings!
To introduce our spelling words this week, we spent today making each word in playdoh letters! It was super fun and a great way to help our brains really think about each letter we are forming to make each word! And who doesn't love Playdoh!?

Seatwork Centers

     Happy Saturday!
This past week, we started centers during seatwork! If students worked hard on the first four items of seatwork, they got to choose a center. There are three to four centers a week and vary depending on what we are learning! This week students could choose from Book Buddies, Listening, and BrainPop Jr. The goal is that by the end of the week, the students have visited each center! Next week we will add a spelling center to the mix! Enjoy these pics! (I was in working in reading groups so I wasn't able to snap a picture of everyone, but wanted you to get a visual of center time!)
