Special Guests!

Several weeks ago, we had two special guests from Vol State come visit our classroom to do a science experiment for us! One of these special guests is my very own sister! They brought some special supplies including dry ice! They showed us the three states of matter, solid, liquid, and gas. Then the fun began! They made the dry ice go from ice, straight to a gas state! It was so cool to watch! After that came really cool bubbles which the kids were able to hold! It was so fun to hear the kids oooh and ahhh over these experiments! Learning can be FUN!

Peeps Experiment

Another fun experiment that we were able to do during testing week was a Peeps Experiment! We took five peeps and placed them in water, vinegar, coke, laundry detergent, and apple juice to see what would happen to them over a week. Each day students observed each peep and recorded what they saw. Over the next five days, students were able to make many observations as the peeps began to make changes! We then checked on the last day to see whose hypothesis' were correct! If you guessed vinegar.....you were correct!

Volcanoes

We teamed up with the first grade last week and studied volcanoes! We took time to study the parts of the volcanoes, why and where they erupt, and then we constructed our own! The pictures are a little blury from all the excitement!

Clouds!

Last week after testing, our students took an afternoon or two to study different cloud types. We spent time discussing the differences, made a cloud flip book, went on a cloud walk, and even did a cloud experiment. So the next time you are outside, be sure to ask your student to identify the cloud types in the sky!
