Building Indian Houses

In history this week, our second graders spent some time studying the different Indian homes from the different parts of our country. We looked at wigwams, chickees, peublos, and tepees. On Friday, Ms. MJ came in armed with supplies to help us make our own Indian houses!
Students worked in pairs and decided which Indian house they wanted to make. They then drew up plans, gathered the materials they would need, and got to work! It was so fun to see them work together, make a plan, and then execute that plan. Here a some pics of each step!

United States Bingo

Over the last few weeks, these hard-working second graders have been locating and filling in each of the fifty states on blank maps. Just this week, they completed their study of the states! They finished up their study with some United States Bingo! Be sure to check out their awesome maps in the hallway outside the second grade classroom!

Valentine's Day

Hey everyone! So we had a great valentine's exchange yesterday!  During math, we graphed candy hearts and in the afternoon we decorated bags, made some cards, and then exchanged valentines! The students had a great time and everyone did a super job on their valentine cards! Here are some pics!

Story Writing

One of my favorite things about being a second grade teacher is the stories that your students write! And this class has some amazing authors! They worked so hard on a recent story about an ice cream shop. They turned out fantastic! We took two days to write these and then edited them and then wrote a final draft for their journals. I captured a cute moment during their rough drafts. They are allowed to sit wherever they want during story writing as long as they are working hard! It was so precious to see them working so hard!
