Learning Perimeter

 Last week, students participated in a great hands on activity to measure perimeter! Each team worked together to find the perimeter of their shape that was taped to the floor. Measure each side and add 'em up!

Flat Stanley is on His Way!

          For those of you who do not our friend, Flat Stanley, he is the main character in the book series that we have been reading since the start of school.Stanley is a boy that was flattened by a bulletin board in his room one night and then proceeds to take many adventures around the world by mailing himself to different places. We have taken it upon ourselves to decorate our own Flat Stanleys and mail them around the world! The kids did a fantastic job on their Stanleys and we are looking forward to tracking them and receiving pictures of Stanley traveling the world!

Learning our Character Trait - Loving

Good afternoon!

   Wanted to share these pics with you! This week, in honor of Valentine's Day, we discussed the character word, loving, and how the Bible commands us to love one another just as Christ loves us. For this activity, each student drew another student's name and wrote them a card to show them kindness and love. It was fun watching the kids get excited about creating a card to show that they cared, but it was even more fun watching their faces light up after they had exchanged cards. What a great lesson to learn on encourage and loving others!

Flashlight Friday

We launched our first Flashlight Friday in second grade this week! And it was a huge success! In preparation for third grade, students are being encouraged to read chapter books and what better way is there to read chapter books than by flashlight! Students were each given a flashlight and allowed to pick a spot in the room and get cozy. Once everyone had a spot, we turned off the lights and clicked on the flashlights! For the next 10 minutes the only sound heard in the room was the turning of pages. It was so exciting that I hope we can do this for many more Fridays! Here are some pictures!
