Pumpkin Patch

 Last Friday, our students had a blast picking out a white pumpkin to decorate! Huge shout out to Ms. MJ for donating all the pumpkins and for making our own little pumpkin patch at HCA!

Roll and Spell

     Students spent some time practicing their spelling words using Roll and Spell! Students paired up and took turns rolling a die. If students rolled a 1, they wrote the word with their other hand. If they rolled a 2, they wrote the word with their eyes closed. A three, students wrote the word as fast as they could. A four, they wrote the word in all capital letters. A five, they wrote the word in fancy letters. And finally if they rolled a six, they wrote the word as tiny as they could! It was fun to see them writing spelling words in so many different ways!

Contraction Surgery

Today your students were transformed from ordinary students to extraordinary surgeons! Contraction surgeons that is! Students donned their masks and gloves and using their scalpel (scissors), they transformed their two word patients into one new contraction! They cut the extra parts of the word off, and added a bandaid (the apostrophe) to stitch the word back together! Take a look at your fabulous surgeons!

Twizzler Time

     Today the second grade class learned to tell time to the quarter til and the quarter past. What a better way to learn about time than with food! Students drew a clock on their table and then they used twizzlers for the hands of the clock. Students became experts as they demonstrated different times, things like 4:15, 2:45, 6:45 etc! And of course we celebrated our new knowledge by eating our twizzlers!

Habitat Projects and Presentations

      On Thursday and Friday, our second grade students presented their habitat dioramas. Each student chose one animal and created that animal's habitat in a shoe box. Students then presented some facts about their animal such as where it lives, what it eats, what preys on their animal, and what job God designed their animal to do. Presenting in front of your peers can be an intimidating thing for students, but not these guys! Each student was so excited to share about their project! We had a great discussion on how God designed each animal with different instincts that are perfect for where that animal lives. And if God cares that much about animals, imagine how much He cares and loves us! Enjoy these pictures!
