Box Tops

Parents,
Thank you so much for all those box tops! Today we spent part of math counting them! It was a great practical way for students to combine a fun contest with math! And the current total is.....472!!! We are just 28 away from $40 for our classroom! I would love to be able to buy some new items for centers, and I am even looking into some different seating for our reading area! The contest has been extended to next Wednesday so keep those box tops coming!

Parts of a Plant!

Hello!!
We started the plant chapter yesterday in science and learned about the four main parts of a plant. Students then sketched a plant of their choosing and labeled the parts. Be sure to check out the final products in the hallway outside our room! Here are some pictures of our busy artists at work!

Spelling and Chalk

Last week during spirit week, students spent some time outside enjoying the beautiful weather! We took some chalk outside and practiced our spelling words! Students wrote each word when asked and then used those words in a sentence. Not only was it fun, but we were dressed as pirates and princesses which made it all the more exciting!

Wriggly Worms

Hello All!

This past Friday, our second grade class had some specials guests....worms! We have been studying worms in science and on Friday we took an in-depth look into two kinds, night crawlers and red worms. Some of us were more willing to poke and prod the worms while others of us (teacher included) examined them from a distance! Be sure to ask your student to give you some worm facts!

Johnny Appleseed Day

In honor of Johnny Appleseed Day, the kindergarten, first, and second grade took some extra time throughout our day to study about Johnny Appleseed as well as different kinds of apples! The classes took part in an apple tasting, apple graphing, a craft, watched a movie and listened to a book and for the culmination of the day....apple bobbing! Thank you to all the parents who donated apple snacks to help us celebrate! Here are some pictures from this super fun day!

Whack A Word

Today students took part in my personal favorite activity...Whack a Word! Think Whack a Mole meets spelling words! Students each received a mallet (a small piece of a pool noodle on a dowel rod) and some moles each with a letter on it. When a spelling word was called out, each student whacked all the letters they needed to spell the word correctly! It was so fun! Here are some pictures!
